Something Different

The funny thing with me is that I am very quick to fall in love with a place. And then, the next thing you know, the very moment I get my hands on my computer, it’d be up on my Facebook as one of my favourite destinations in the world.

Usually, I am quite nonchalent about writing about places that I love here. I’d just post a nice photo which I find to be unique of the place and that’s that. Sometimes it is relevant, sometimes it is not. But I want to try something different this time, and it could just be a new feature here in future! (or maybe just a passing phase, only to be forgotten by tomorrow…which is very typical of me..)

Anyway, I’ve just returned from Athens, Greece. Although it was a very short trip, I knew had to make the best of it cos’ I’ve been looking forward to it the moment I knew I’d be making a trip there. So it was off for sightseeing the moment the plane landed.

First stop, obviously, would be the Acropolis. It’s really surreal to be going to a place you only see on the Discovery or National Geographic channels. And despite the heat, and the lack of sleep (having not slept for more than 12 hours), the Acropolis was my first destination of the day.

unique sign to the acropolis

You know, it’s funny how the signs to the Acropolis were. I mean, usually, when you visit world-famous attractions, you’d find professionally-made signs giving you directions. Yet, this sign is terribly unique. IT is just plain AWESOME. It’s so different that it ROCKS.

Despite the heat being almost 40 degress celcius, the climb up was a scenic one… Check out the view! And another thing that struck me while climbing up was how cool it would be to be living just beneath the Acropolis!

uniqe greek houses

Just look at how beautiful the colours of the flowers are up against the white-washed walls of these signature Greek houses…

acropolis and its hordes of tourists

Looks like I’m not the only crazy person who decided to brave the summer heat! Check out the hordes of tourists at the site! Below is a picture of, a much less obstructed view of one of the ruins found at the Acropolis…

Right, after what seemed like a long climb up and down, there is nothing more satisfying than a refreshing glass of ice-cold coke. At least that is what my colleague thought. (I, for one, have a totally different opinion…) Anyway, here’s a pic of a rather interesting coke ad taken at the Plaka.

live on the coke side of athens

While my colleague happily savoured his coke, I happily savoured my Nescafe Frappe, which is sold in most of the cafes and restaurants. This light, frothy, ice-cold, sweet, and milky coffee drink gave me the caffeine fix of my life. Throughout the entire day, I had like 3 glasses of it. Talk about being a caffeine addict! And the verdict on which cafe sold the best Frappe? The winner is definitely God’s Restaurant! *claps!*

Okay, this is getting really long eh? I think I better stop before I sound like another travel blog. Anyway, there were other places that I visited along the way that were equally awesome. For example, the Temple of the Olympian Zeus was magnificent and so was the little beach at Flisvos. Let me end this post with a photo of the dirtiest feet in the world… thanks to the ultra-mini dust/dirt storm at the Acropolis. *Ta-dah!*

yucky dirty feet

Till next time, cheers!
