Part II

I am so slow. I meant to do a Part II of my “Another long post?” entry… but haven’t gotten down to doing it till now. I simply have to finish it with a Part II because I will not beable to forgive myself if I didn’t write about this.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, I’m falling in love with London. Some time back, I was pretty psyched about seeing the musical Sound of Music and cannot wait to see another musical (i guess it will have to wait till next month..and I’m deciding between Lion King and We Will Rock You…hmm…anyway…). Yet, this time round, I decided to do something slightly different. See how fickle I am? One moment this and another moment that… :s

Anyhow, I went to see a play at the Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. For fans of Shakespeare… do see a play there at least once.. But my guess is that you will probably want to do it again and again and again…

The one I went to was not the original site. It is a remake of the Globe, and it is just beside the River Thames. I must say, it’s excellent all the same. (of course nothing beats visiting the real thing but this is just as good)

the Globe Theatre!

This was the highlight of my itinerary that day.. I mean what I did earlier in the day was exciting enough but this..this I had to do! THIS, I cannot miss. They had 2 shows playing that day (I forgot what was the name of the other play) … anyway, I chose Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Ticket, information, schedule...

The play was brilliantly staged..and the actors.. AWESOME. Actually, before the play started, I was quite concerned about not understanding Shakespearean English. I mean, the last time I studied Shakespeare was like what? about 10 years ago?!?! I’d probably fall asleep before they can even finish the first act! Yet, it was not as bad as I thought it would be. Surprisingly, it is much easier to understand when spoken than when read. I mean as least I thought I understood most of it.. I mean I laughed at the right parts.. right? (lol) :p

What struck me most about this whole experience was the whole atmosphere and structure of the place. It was really quite authentic and was exactly like how I imagined it to be. Except that, I was actually sitting there, and seeing an actual play. I guess the feeling must have been the same centuries ago!

Alright…I will not talk about the ticket prices and what-nots here. But, if you are really that interested, visit their website.

Okay.. hmm what else should I say now? Nothing. ‘Cept that I really enjoyed myself that night. It was really a great experience. I mean, even if you are not a fan of Shakespearean plays, anyone who has read or studied Shakespeare should try this at least once. And, maybe, you’d be hooked on it too.

the actors.. brilliant cast!

Till then! Adieu, adieu!
