In search of Art in the Mission (Part 2):
I was armed with a walking map from Lonely Planet.
Here are some facts about the walk:
- You are supposed to START at 16th St Mission BART Station and END at 24th St Mission BART Station.
- The distance is about a mile and time taken is about 1.5 hours.
- The walk should be relatively easy.
Here’s what I did:
- I took the MUNI and alighted at 16th Church St. I was originally directed to 18th Church St. but I decided to listen to my instincts instead. And yes, it was a right move.
- Then I decided to walk blindly towards 16th St, and again, I followed my instincts cos’ my map was no help and I did not know which direction to turn. My head just told me to turn left and walk straight. And I did.
- I found the walk long and I made a few wrong turns (talk about being an idiot - I had a map for goodness sake!)
- As I progressed on, following my map, I decided, YES! I’m on the right track. And before I know it, I’m standing in front of the Redstone Building. Stop Number 1. Excellent!
- And lastly, in reality, I took more than 1.5 hours and did not complete the walk. I missed out on the last stop, Balmy Alley (this I could visit during my next trip).
