Back from Amsterdam and lovin' every bit of it!

Amsterdam, Amsterdam! How can you not love Netherland’s favourite son? I am so in love with this city.. How can you not be? It has so much colour! so much live! so very vibrant! so hippy-cool! and it makes you so magic-mushroom-high!

As I recall the last time I was there, I saw the windmills, went to the Anne Frank Huis, posed for pictures with the Grim Reapers at Dam Square (if you look at my archives, you can see a drawing I did called “The Ransom at Dam Square”); did some “window shopping” (where I was quietly thrilled by the girls and decor of their little steamy, kinky bedrooms); bought some uber cool postcards (all of which are nicely stuck on my bedroom wall) and (sshh!) where I tried my first stick of weed.

This time round, I wanted to take things slow. I visited the Van Gogh Museum on the first day. It was nice in the museum but dreadful outside cos’ it was raining. But I did manage to take some nice pictures… (will display them later). I spent a good 2 over hours drooling over Van Gogh’s painting while I was in the museum. THEY ARE INCREDIBLE! You won’t know it until you see them for yourself. Prints don’t really have quite the same impact, I tell you..

What struck me most was his technique.. and his passion.. and his attention to detail (I especially love those paintings he did of the farming peasants where he emphasized and exaggerated their hands) —> AWESOMENESS! I love how he mixed his colours.. I love how he developed pointillism. AND I ESPECIALLY LOVE how he was a self-made man. He taught himself how to draw and paint… not having to go through formal training. In a way, I draw inspiration from that. I love to draw and have not gone through actual training. And this is very important to me. I am secretly delighted and pleased that there is still hope for art enthusiasts like me.

Okay, time to post some pictures!

Vaarwel!
